On February 22, the Arizona legislature approved waiving the K-12 public school spending cap. This cap threatened to shut down schools across Arizona by preventing districts from spending money already approved by the legislature. Chandler schools would have faced a $54M reduction, with Gilbert schools facing an additional $40M in cuts. Jennifer Pawlik recognized this problem and drafted the initial bill that kept schools open.
